Having travelled from across the Demsene of Sêmont, the group assembled in the throne room of the Jarl of Forestgate. There, they met with Ájden Ártôr, the Jarl himself, Irdel Tôrdic, and Glôdrin Tôrdic. The group discusses the goal of the expedition, to win the hearts and minds of the inhabitants of Crôt while they re-establish the destroyed Mont. The group agrees to this mission and preparations are made to begin the expedition.
En route to the town of Crôt, the expedition happens upon a crime in progress. A group of bandits, their faces concealed behind elaborate copper masks, had surrounded a small Báguar trading caravan. Present also was a Dûnduar, who had engaged in avid conversation with the leader of the bandit troupe.
Glôdrin, having been alerted to the presence of the bandits by his advance scout, ordered his troops to intercede. The company broke into two flanking groups and advanced on the crime scene, ordering the bandits to desist.
The bandit leader, with a scream of "traitor," killed the Dûnduar with a sword thrust even as the battle was joined. The Tôrdic company fought valiently, slaying one of the bandits and capturing a second. After the sudden arrival of Xu Shen Mi, the battle was disrupted and the bandits fled.
The expedition picked up their wounded, tended to their dead, and retired to the trading post of Xu Shen Mi. During the night, the corpse of the bandit was "interrogated" by the Mîselid undertaker, and the mystery around the Copper-Face Gang unfolded in what the corpse had to say.
After the expedition left the trading post, Shen Mi burned the building to the ground, symbolically severing her ties with her recent past.
The expedition pressed onward to the town of Crôt in the Founderstone mountains and were greeted with an ambivalent reception. There, they confered with the Rânkin Clan's matriarch, Mêlá, where they turned over the body of her clansman, who had died at the hand of the bandits. Mêlá's reception of them was impassive and Shen Mi was released from her obligations to the Clan. Barôt was retained to prepare the body for internment.
The members of the expedition were greeted at the Feldspar Reef, a local tavern, by Dárdin Fasker, a sympathizer to the Tôrdic Clan. After weeks on the road, the expedition members had a bath, a meal, and warm beds.
Bels Fôrlen travelled to the surface above the town of Crôt and sampled the spiritual environment of the town. He countered xenophobic spirits that inhabited the idealized version of the town, but none would communicate with him.
The peaceful night the expedition had hoped for was broken by the alarm bells of Crôt. There had been murders! Two of the Báguar merchants were killed as they slept in their beds, stabbed in the hearts by elaborate copper daggers.
The expedition scrambled to investigate, with Barôt taking the lead on the forensics while Glôdrin consulted with the local militia. The investigation was disrupted by the arrival of Edgon Vártic, the Jarl of Crôt, who demanded the members of the expedition leave. Only Barôt remained behind to tend the bodies.
The rest of the expedition regrouped at the Feldspar Reef and decided they would continue to investigate the Copper-Face Gang, intent on stopping the bandits that preyed upon the community.
