Lesser Anár
Commonly thought of as the "wildlands" of the continent, Lesser Anár is far less civilized than its counterpart. Despite this perception, this region hosts areas of civilization that are remotely located. The more prominent of these nations are described below:
- The Demesne of Sêmont: located in a valley of the the Three Brothers, between the broken coast and the Shattered Mountains, the demesne was founded by clans of Duar who left their ancestral empire, crossed the continent, and founded a small nation where freedom from the whims of imperial dictate could be gained.
- The Demesne of Coppervale: The Duar who founded Coppervale left the Red Empire shortly after the Duar who founded Sêmont and they crossed the contintent, the Bulwark Mountains, and Lesser Anâr following the trail that those of Sêmont blazed. When it became obvious that Sêmont claimed the lushest of the valleys in Western Anâr, those Duar that founded Coppervale grew jealous. They founded their own Mont upon rich veins of copper and have prospered because of it, but many of the founders of the mont never let go of their feelings toward the Sêmont clans; thus a lasting rivalry was borne that persists to modern day.
- The Demesne of Árikmont: The Duar of Árikmont crossed the continent from the Red Empire after those of Sêmont and Coppervale, and among the caravans of Duar who would found Clovengate. When the party reached Western Anár, they split into two groups, one founding Clovengate and one Árikmont. Those that settled into the hills in Western Anár were blessed to find rich veins of gold that led to their prosperity, but were cursed to be surrounded by hostile Kernuar, with whom they conflicted at every turn. The relations between the Kernuar and the Duar have oscillated between cold war and open hostilities many times, but are currently at a tense peace.
- The Demesne of Clovengate: The Demesne of Clovengate was so named because, shortly after its founding, a Cataclysm struck and cracked the gate of the mont. While it has been repaired back to its former strength, at the Jarl's command, the cracked sections were retained as a reminder of what the Cataclyms can take away. Clovengate is the closest of the West Anár monts to the Warlands and the Red Empire, and while its vision has always looked west toward freedom, they have also always looked over their shoulder at the long shadow cast by the Red Empire. They were the first mont in West Anár to commit their military might to the Red War and have been bitter participants throughout the conflict.
- The Demesne of Sôthmont: The Demesne of Sôthmont is the closest of the Far Monts and was founded so long ago by colonists from the Red Empire before it was the Red Empire. The Far Monts suffered through many cataclysms and Sôthmont with them. They have reinvented themselves time and again in response to these disasters, and today remain a sedate, insular mont. Since the beginning of the Red War, the mont has receded further into its insularity, fearing the Empire's dominion over them. They watch passively as the Red War wages, fearful of revealing their presence lest it draw the Empire's attention.
- The Warlands: located in the center of the continent, the front of the Red War encompasses many of the free nations of the Duar who struggle against the damage the war has unleashed. The Warlands become more and more scathed with each passing year the war drags on.
- Álishánin: With some degree of annoyance from the Rhewood, Álishánin strives to maintain positive relations with its Duar neighbors and regularly entertains diplomatic relations with both the Demesnes of Sêmont and Coppervale. Given the poor relationship between Rhewood and both Árikmont and Clovengate, the Kernuar of Rhewood would prefer that the Kernuar of Álishánin would give them more support in their efforts, but those of Álishánin are ruled by a tolerant Lord and Lady who find interaction with the other races diverting and ultimately worthwhile.
- Rhewood: Rhewood is the largest Kernuar holding in Western Anár and is ruled by a Lord and Lady who believe in the traditional values of the Kernuar faith and enforce the maintenance of the balance within their boundaries. They do so with a powerful zeal and a brace of Eláhuar guardians. Their provincial attitude fails to endear Álishánin's Kernuar to them and thus, the two holdings have a strained relationship. Given Rhewood's campaigns against the ecological ecesses of both Árikmont and Clovengate, the fact that Álishánin routinely hosts Duar diplomatic envoys only strains their relationship further.
- Sâpens Tribelands: The open plains of Western Anár are home to countless fractious bands of Sâpens that struggle with one another for dominance. In fact, they struggle with everyone whom they cross, believing that success in warfare earns them a place in the hereafter and furthers the standing of their individual tribe. The Sâpens of the Tribelands are naturally rebuffed by the Duar monts that surround them and the Kernuar of the Rhewood that despise their excesses. Nonetheless, adventurous tribes have been known to explore beyond their borders.
